Years ago as I moved from Scottsdale/Paradise Valley area of Arizona to Kauai. As I would tell family, friends, and clients (I was a Realtor in Arizona as well) that I was moving to Kauai a common response was "Oh, I love that show Hawaii Life"!
As a professional Realtor I don't often watch HGTV simply because it is a very edited version of the "realities" of being a Realtor. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of entertainment value there, just not a lot of "this is how it's actually done" kind of substance.
However, as I prepared to move just about everyone I spoke to would say to me, "Anne, I love the HGTV show Hawaii Life, you've got to be an agent on that show"! I had never seen the show or heard of Hawaii Life. Little did I know...
As a new agent on Kauai a few years ago (14 years of real estate experience) people visiting Kauai would often stop by my open houses. A common conversation starter would be, "Hey, can we be on the TV show Hawaii Life"? I would often reply by saying, "Hey, if you're ready to sign a contract I'll call the film crew right now"!
It is a fun show, and it does an excellent job of showing off paradise! Plus, it's fun to see people living they lives they want and having their dreams come true. Which is often the case when you are someone that actually gets to purchase a house or condo in Hawaii.
My turn came several months ago when my clients Michele, Jean-Marc, and I auditioned to be on Hawaii Life. They are a fun attractive couple with two adorable little girls. My opinion, HGTV and Hawaii Life were ecstatic to film them! We looked at homes in Princeville (Villas of Kamalii), Kilauea, and Kapaa. Michele and Jean-Marc decided on a great home in Kilauea, and I negotiated a great price on the home for them. It was a lot of fun for everyone involved!

One of my favorite things about being on HGTV's Hawaii Life came after the episode aired. Of course my family, friends, and clients loved watching the show, seeing the different homes we looked at on Kauai, and just the everyday stunning vistas Kauai has to offer. There was a flurry of Facebook excitement and texting from friends all over the country and a few from places as far off as London, Abu Dhabi, Chile, and Micronesia.
My father officially retired as a medical Doctor several years ago and since then my parents have spent the majority of their time in remote parts of the world volunteering his medical expertise and helping people who really need it. When they started this work years ago they began in Chile and 15-20 countries later they are now mostly working on Weno (an island the Micronesian country of Truuk).
The day after my highly anticipated episode of HGTV's Hawaii Life aired a friend of my mother's from Chile wrote on her Facebook page, "I saw your daughter Anne last night on House Hunters Hawaii"!
Well...House Hunters Hawaii, Hawaii Life, or whatever else you'd like to call it (a rose by any other name). When clients are happy I guess you simply call it a success!
